Meet the Team
A Letter From Dr. Greg Wallace
“My recent retirement was hastened by a diagnosis of Non-Hodgkin B cell Lymphoma in June of 2022. It was not the way I had envisioned retiring. I joined Tutt Street in 1991 when it was named ‘Kemp, Goods and Associates’, and I was thrilled to be accepted as a partner two years later. So in 1993, ‘Tutt Street Optometry’ (TSO) was born out of the legacy of Dr. John Kemp and Dr. Grant Goods.
After 31 incredible years as your Optometrist, the time has come to bid you farewell. I had hoped to work longer but it was not to be. I still miss my daily interactions with patients, staff and my colleagues. Friends became patients and patients became friends over my years at TSO. I am grateful for the trust you placed in me, allowing me to play a role in maintaining and improving your vision over the years. I take comfort in the fact that all of the optometrists at TSO practise with the same level of passion for the profession of Optometry as I have and you will be well cared for in the future at TSO.
I truly regret I could not say goodbye to patients in person but the immediacy of diagnosis and urgency for timely treatment did not allow for that. We had the good fortune, however, of having our first two grandchildren born in 2022, 3 weeks apart. They have been a great joy for Judi and me and helped to counterbalance the testing, waiting, treating, testing, waiting cycle of cancer treatments.
It has been an absolute privilege and joy to be a part of your eye care journey. The relationships we have built have been the highlight of my career, and I will carry the memories of our time together with me. I leave with a sense of fulfillment, having served such a wonderful community. “
Warm regards,
Greg
A Letter From Dr. John Kemp
“In the mid-1980s, I teamed up with optometrist Dr. Grant Goods and ophthalmologist Dr. Frank DeFreitas to build the clinic that is now home to Tutt Street Optometry. From its early years with just two optometrists, the clinic now has nine optometrists looking after the optometric needs of a growing number of wonderful patients.
My career as an optometrist spanned 42 years, with all but eight of those years practising at the present location. I really enjoyed my years at Tutt Street Optometry, working, helping and interacting with a variety of people of all ages and from all walks of life. In retirement, I do miss the daily interactions with patients, and I thank them for being such interesting people.
I was fortunate to have a wonderful team of optometrists, optometric assistants, opticians and other support staff in the clinic as well as an excellent group of ophthalmologists and other colleagues in the broader health care community.
In retirement, my wife Loraine and I remain quite active, with hockey (me only!), downhill and cross-country skiing, gardening/landscaping, hiking, canoeing, and golf keeping us busy.”
